What's the difference between a standard unit and a deluxe flushing unit?

I'm planning a six-month office construction site rental for a crew of 25, and I'm comparing a standard unit to a deluxe flushing unit. The standard unit is the basic plastic stall with a non-flushing toilet seat over a holding tank. The deluxe flushing unit has a porcelain or plastic flushing toilet bowl that empties into a holding tank, plus a small sink with running water and a mirror.

The main difference is the experience. A deluxe unit feels more like a permanent restroom and will likely be more comfortable for the crew over half a year. But it also has more parts that can break, and the fresh water tank in the sink will need to be part of the service routine. The site has level ground and good truck access.

For a long-term rental, is the flushing feature worth the extra complexity and cost? Does the sink make a handwash station unnecessary?

The main differences are the flushing mechanism, the sink, and the service requirements. A standard portable toilet has a non-flushing seat over a holding tank and uses a deodorizer for odor control. A deluxe flushing unit has a flushing toilet that empties into the tank, a sink with running water from a separate fresh water tank, and a mirror. The flushing unit provides a more permanent restroom feel, which can improve crew comfort over a six-month project. However, it requires more frequent service visits because the fresh water tank must be refilled and the gray water from the sink must be pumped. For a crew of 25, OSHA 1926.51 requires one toilet, so either type meets the minimum. The sink in a deluxe unit reduces the need for a separate handwash station, but you may still want one for multiple users or to meet specific site safety plans. The higher cost of a deluxe unit comes from the unit itself, the additional service labor, and the water handling. In cold weather, the fresh water system may need winterization or swapping, adding complexity.
