Service visit

Also called: servicing, pump-out, cleaning, weekly service

A service visit is the scheduled stop by a vacuum truck driver who pumps the holding tank, recharges the deodorizer and water, cleans the interior, restocks toilet paper and checks the unit for damage. Weekly service is the industry norm for a unit in normal use.

The driver needs to reach the unit with the truck's hose, so anything that blocks the truck (a locked gate, parked cars, mud, a fence) turns into a missed service. A typical stop takes five to ten minutes per unit.

Service frequency is set in the rental agreement. Construction and home rentals usually include one service per week in the monthly rate; events are serviced before the event and, for multi-day events, each morning.
