Winterization
Also called: winter service, antifreeze in the tank, brine
Winterization is what an operator does to keep a portable toilet usable below freezing: adding a brine or salt solution or a non-toxic antifreeze to the holding tank, draining or treating fresh water tanks in flushing units and sinks, and adjusting service so the truck's hose and pump do not freeze.
Standard units work through winter on job sites with a treated tank. Flushing units and handwash stations are often swapped for standard units and sanitizer when temperatures stay below freezing, because the fresh water freezes.
Restroom trailers have heated interiors and heated tank compartments and need continuous power to stay operational in cold weather.
