October 2026 5k race: how many porta potties for 500 people?

I'm organizing a 5k race in October 2026 with about 500 people total, runners and spectators. The event will run from 8 AM to noon, so four hours. We'll have a water station for runners and a food truck for spectators, no alcohol. The course is in a city park with grassy, level ground, and a service truck can drive right up to the placement area. I'm deciding between standard units and maybe a deluxe unit or two near the finish line for nicer facilities. How many porta potties do I need for this crowd? Should I include an ADA-compliant unit even if we don't have registered wheelchair participants?

You need at least 10 portable toilets for 500 people at a four-hour event without alcohol. Use the event planning guideline of one standard unit per 50 people for a baseline. Add more units because crowds with food and drink use facilities more often. Include one ADA-compliant unit even without registered wheelchair users. The ADA cluster rule requires it when you place multiple units together, and it ensures accessibility for all guests. A deluxe unit near the finish line is a good upgrade for runners. Place all units on level ground with clear truck access for servicing. Service frequency depends on use: weekly is standard, but a one-day event like this may not need mid-event service if units start fresh. Costs vary by unit type, rental duration, and delivery distance. Deluxe and ADA units cost more than standard ones.
