What factors make a restroom trailer rental more expensive than standard units?

I'm planning a two-day music festival for 500 guests with food vendors and a beer garden. I got quotes for standard units and a restroom trailer. The trailer is significantly more expensive. I know a restroom trailer has flushing toilets, sinks, lighting and requires power, but what else drives that cost? Is it the delivery with a heavier truck, the need for a generator, the water hookup, or the service pumping? My site has level grass and truck access, but I want to understand the price difference before I decide. Are there hidden costs I should ask about in the quote?

A restroom trailer rental costs more because it is a complex, high-capacity system that requires more equipment, labor, and maintenance than a standard portable toilet. The higher price reflects the trailer's construction with multiple flushing toilets, sinks with running water, lighting, mirrors, and climate control. It needs a heavy-duty truck for delivery, a dedicated generator or power hookup for the entire event, and a water source or a fresh water tank fill-up. Servicing is more involved; a vacuum truck must pump both the holding tank for waste and the gray water tank from the sinks, and the interior needs detailed cleaning. For your 500-person festival with alcohol, the trailer offers better capacity and comfort, but ask the rental company if the quote includes generator fuel, water delivery, a dedicated service schedule for the two days, and any fees for leveling on grass. Standard units are cheaper to rent, deliver, and service, but you would need more of them to meet the same demand.

A restroom trailer costs more than a pile of standard units because you are renting a full plumbing and power package, not just a booth with a tank.

Delivery usually needs a heavier truck and more crew time to spot and level on grass. Power is not optional for lights, flush pumps, and climate control if the trailer has it, so either a dedicated generator with fuel for both days or a verified site hookup is baked into that quote. Fresh water has to arrive somehow, and gray water from the sinks leaves with the waste on each service stop. Interior restock and cleaning also run heavier than a quick wipe on a standard unit, especially at a beer garden where soap and paper disappear over two days.

Before you compare totals, ask what the line items cover: generator and fuel, water fills, how many vacuum truck stops over the weekend, leveling, and whether mid-event paper and soap restocks are included. Standard units stay cheaper to move and pump, but you still need enough of them plus handwash coverage for 500 guests with alcohol. The trailer premium is mostly logistics and labor stacked on a more complex unit.
