Open job site gets gusty: do we need to stake the porta potty?

We're putting a standard unit on a graded pad at the edge of a warehouse build. The pad is level and the vacuum truck can reach it from the gravel road, but the site sits out in the open with almost no windbreak.

Last week we had a couple of strong afternoon gusts and the unit rocked enough that the crew was joking about it tipping. The rental company said staking or tie-downs are available, but I'm not clear on who usually does that work.

Is staking something the delivery crew handles as part of placement, or do we supply our own straps and anchors? For a multi-month site with weekly service, does staking get in the way of the hose when they pump?

Any practical tips from people who've had units on open pads would help.

The delivery crew should stake the standard unit during placement. This is their job. You do not need to supply straps or anchors. An un-staked unit on an open pad is a safety risk, and wind can tip it, damage the unit, and spill waste. Your rental company's driver carries stakes and tie-downs for exactly this situation.

Staking does not interfere with the vacuum truck hose. The driver will place the stakes away from the service door and the hose path. For a multi-month job with weekly service visits, the driver simply unhooks the straps to pump the unit and re-secures it afterward. It takes them a minute.

On my ranch, we use staking every time. The wind comes down the valley with no trees to stop it. I tell my driver to stake it tight. A tipped unit means a cleanup, a missed service call, and a hassle. Make sure the pad is truly level ground. If it rocks without wind, the driver needs to reposition it before staking. Call your rental company and confirm they will stake it on the next delivery or service run.
