What's the one thing you wish every customer knew before renting?

After nine years driving a vacuum truck, I have a short list of things I wish every customer knew. The biggest one is placement. A standard portable toilet needs to be on level ground within 25 feet of where my truck can park, every single service day. I've lost count of how many units are blocked by a new material pile or a parked crane. That's a missed service, and it usually gets billed.

I also wish more people understood how usage affects a unit. A weekend wedding with 100 people and an open bar is a very different job from a month on a construction site with a crew of ten. The wedding needs more units and probably an extra service. The deodorizer only does so much.

So, what's the one thing you wish customers understood better? Is it about the holding tank capacity, the service frequency, or something else entirely?

I wish every customer knew that the permit office reviews the restroom plan for compliance with city health department rules, not just the unit count. We check for correct ADA-compliant portable toilet inclusion per the ADA 5 percent cluster rule, proper placement away from food vendors and water sources, and a realistic service frequency based on event duration and crowd size. Many applicants underestimate usage: a festival with alcohol and long hours needs more units and mid-event servicing, not just a standard weekly schedule. The rental company factors in service trips, unit type, and duration when pricing, but the permit hinges on meeting municipal standards. Blocked access or inadequate plans delay approvals, and last-minute changes cost more.
