We're planning a backyard wedding for 100 guests with an open bar running about six hours. The ground is level grass, and a truck can get within 20 feet of the spot. The rental company quoted three standard units. I'm worried that might not be enough, especially with drinks flowing all evening. I've read that alcohol increases usage, and I want to avoid long lines. Should we add a deluxe unit or an ADA-compliant unit to the mix? How do you calculate for an open bar event?

Three standard units are not enough for a 100-guest wedding with a six-hour open bar. The industry planning guideline for events starts near one standard unit per 50 to 75 people for a four-hour event. Your event is longer and includes alcohol, which increases usage significantly. Add at least one more unit, and consider a deluxe unit or an ADA-compliant unit.

The ADA cluster rule requires at least one accessible unit when you have a cluster of portable toilets. For a wedding, this is good practice even if not legally required on private property. A cluster of four or five units with one being ADA-compliant is a solid setup. A deluxe unit with a flushing toilet and sink adds a nicer option for guests.

Weekly service frequency is the norm, but for a single-day event you pay for one service after. The rental cost is driven by the unit type, with deluxe and ADA units costing more than standard units, and the duration of the rental. Your level grass and 20-foot truck access are ideal for placement and service.
