Outdoor holiday market November 2026: porta potties for 50 vendors?

I'm organizing a weekend holiday market in a city park for November 2026. We'll have 50 vendor booths selling crafts and food, with an expected public attendance of around 1,000 people per day over two days. The ground is flat grass, and a vacuum truck can access the perimeter. We're serving hot cocoa and snacks, but no alcohol. I'm planning to rent standard portable toilets and an ADA-compliant unit for the public. Should I also provide dedicated units for the vendors, or will the public units suffice for everyone?

Yes, you should provide dedicated units for the vendors. The public units will not suffice for everyone. OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51 requires one toilet per 20 workers for construction sites, but for events with 50 vendors, a dedicated cluster of standard units ensures vendors have reliable access without competing with public lines. Place the vendor units near their booths, separate from the public cluster.

For the public, use the planning guideline of about one unit per 50 to 75 people for a four-hour event. With 1,000 attendees per day over two days, add more units due to the duration and food service. Include an ADA-compliant unit in each cluster to meet the ADA 5 percent cluster rule.

Service frequency depends on use: weekly is normal, but for a two-day event with high traffic, schedule a service visit after each day to prevent overfilling. Flat grass and truck access simplify placement. Costs are driven by unit count, rental duration, service visits, and any add-ons like handwash stations.
