Thanksgiving 2026 dinner for 80: porta potties for outdoor seating?

We're hosting a big family Thanksgiving dinner in 2026 with about 80 people. Our house only has two indoor bathrooms, and we're adding outdoor seating in the backyard. The ground is flat grass, and a truck can drive right up to the edge of the lawn. The event will run about 6 hours with a full meal and wine. I'm trying to figure out how many porta potties we need and what type makes sense. Should we get a few standard units, or is a restroom trailer worth it for a one-day event? Also, do we need an ADA-compliant unit even if no one in the family uses a wheelchair?

For 80 guests at a six-hour event with alcohol, you need at least two portable toilets, but three units would be better for comfort. The units per person guideline suggests one unit per 50 to 75 people for a four-hour event, but alcohol and longer duration increase usage. Add a third unit to reduce lines. You must include an ADA-compliant portable toilet if you cluster units, as the ADA 5 percent cluster rule requires it even if no wheelchair users attend. A restroom trailer offers flushing toilets and sinks but requires level ground, a generator or power hookup, and typically costs more due to setup complexity. Standard units are simpler for a one-day event. Your flat grass with truck access is ideal for placement. Service isn’t needed for a single day, but units will be delivered clean and picked up post-event. Choose based on guest comfort versus budget; trailers feel upscale but standard units meet basic needs efficiently.
