Rec league fields: should weekly service come Friday or Monday?

Priya N.asked 0 viewsHow Many UnitsService frequencyClusterOdorSports facilitiesWeekend events

Our parks department has a cluster of portable toilets at the rec league soccer complex. We have four standard units and one ADA-compliant unit on grass, with easy truck access from the parking lot. The fields are packed all weekend with tournaments and league play, but they're quiet Monday through Thursday. The units get heavy use between Friday evening and Sunday afternoon.

Right now, our rental company provides a weekly service visit. We're debating whether to schedule it for Friday mornings before the weekend rush or Monday mornings after it's all over. A Friday service means the units are fresh for the crowds, but they might fill up by Sunday. A Monday service cleans up the mess, but players on Saturday and Sunday might find them less than ideal.

Which day gives us the best balance of cleanliness and capacity for a weekend-heavy schedule?

Schedule the weekly service visit for Friday mornings. A Friday service ensures the units are clean and have full holding tanks for the weekend rush, which is when your rec league fields see the heaviest use. The standard portable toilet holding tanks hold 50 to 70 gallons, and with four standard units and one ADA-compliant portable toilet in the cluster, that capacity should handle a weekend of tournament traffic if they start fresh. A Monday service leaves players dealing with units that are already soiled and nearing capacity on Saturday and Sunday, which is when cleanliness matters most. Weekly service is the industry norm, but heavy use like weekend tournaments can push units to their limit. If you notice complaints about fullness or odor by Sunday afternoon, consider adding a mid-weekend service or upgrading to larger-capacity units. The goal is to have the units perform when they are needed most.

Friday is the right day if you only get one visit, but push for it to land as late on Friday as the route allows instead of first thing.

Our market runs Saturday mornings with units sitting in a lot all week, and the timing of the visit mattered more than the day. A unit pumped at 7am Friday has already taken Friday evening practice traffic before the first Saturday game. Ask the dispatcher if your stop can be one of the last of the day. Routes tend to run the same way every week, so it's a one time ask.

What ran out first for us was never tank space. It was toilet paper and hand sanitizer, usually by Sunday midday. Keep a box of rolls with whoever opens the fields on Sunday and have them restock between games.

Also ask the driver to tell you how full the tanks are at each Friday service visit. If they keep coming back close to full, that's your case for a second weekly visit, and Monday is the one to add, because otherwise a whole weekend of waste sits there Monday through Thursday and that's when the smell builds.

Last thing, check that the ADA unit is still on a firm, level spot with a clear path after the truck has been driving on wet grass.
