What's the maximum distance a service hose can reach?
A portable toilet service hose can typically reach a unit located up to 100 feet from the vacuum truck. Your unit, at 150 feet from the nearest truck parking, will likely need to be moved closer for servicing.
How a service visit works
A driver arrives in a vacuum truck equipped with a long, flexible hose. The hose draws waste from the holding tank of a standard portable toilet or restroom trailer into the truck's tank. Hoses are designed for efficiency and safety; they are heavy when full and lose suction power over very long distances. Most companies require the unit to be within about 25 feet of the truck's parking spot, but hoses can be extended to 100 feet in some cases. Beyond that, the driver cannot service the unit.
When you need to move the unit
If your placement is more than 100 feet from truck access, the rental company will probably ask you to relocate the unit. A blocked or unreachable unit is logged as a missed service, and you may be billed for the trip. Talk to your operator before the first service to confirm their maximum hose length. For a long-term rental like my home renovation, moving the unit once to a better spot is easier than dealing with missed services every week.
I had to scoot mine from the far corner of the driveway to a spot right by the curb. The driver showed me how much hose he had, and it was exactly 100 feet. Anyone else had to move a unit for service? What did your driver say about hose reach?
