High-rise site: What's the plan if the crane is down on service day?

We're on a 35-story build in Phoenix with 150 workers, standard 40-hour week. The crane goes down for maintenance next Tuesday, our regular service day. The rental company sends a vacuum truck that needs access to our cluster of units on the ground level. All 12 standard units and one ADA-compliant unit are placed on level gravel, 20 feet from the service road. If the truck can't get in, it's a missed service, and the crew will riot in this heat. What's the backup plan? Do I reschedule service, or does the operator have a workaround for crane-down days?

Reschedule the service. A vacuum truck needs drive-up access, and there is no workaround if the crane blocks the route. Call your rental company now to move the service to the day before the crane goes down or the day it's back up. A missed service is logged when the driver shows up and the placement is blocked, and you will likely be billed for the trip. Your 13-unit cluster for 150 workers meets the OSHA 1926.51 minimum, so missing a service for one week in Phoenix heat will be rough but manageable if you act fast. The rental company's schedule is a route; changing it costs them fuel and driver time, so a last-minute reschedule might incur a fee. For future crane-down days, plan the service schedule around the crane maintenance calendar at the start of the project to avoid this.
