October 2026: Why is my monthly rental quote higher than last year?

Just got the renewal quote for my construction site's two standard portable toilets from my rental company. The monthly rate for the same service is up a noticeable amount from what I paid last October. We keep these units for the full duration of our projects, which are typically six-month residential gut rehabs. The units sit on a gravel pad at the rear of the property, with good truck access for the weekly service visit.

I'm trying to figure out what's driving the increase. Is it just fuel and labor costs going up for the operator, or are there new regulations or disposal fees from the wastewater treatment plant? Has anyone else seen a similar jump in their long-term rental rates this year?

Your monthly rental rate increase is driven by the rental company's rising operational costs, not new regulations. Fuel, labor and wastewater disposal fees have all gone up since last year, and these expenses are passed through to customers.

Fuel costs for the vacuum truck affect every service visit. Labor is a major part of the service cost. The waste disposal fee your rental company pays to the treatment plant can also increase, especially as municipalities update their environmental standards. Your setup with two standard portable toilets on a gravel pad with good truck access is ideal for efficient service, but the underlying costs for that service have risen.

There are no new federal regulations like OSHA 1926.51 or the ADA cluster rule that would affect your two-unit long-term rental. Your six-month project duration should qualify for a better rate than a short-term rental. I've seen similar increases on my construction sites this year. It's worth asking your rental company for a breakdown; sometimes they can lock in a rate for the full project if you commit to the entire six months upfront.
