Waste disposal

Also called: septage disposal, dump site, where the waste goes

Waste disposal is what happens after the vacuum truck leaves: the waste is hauled to a wastewater treatment plant, a permitted septage receiving station or a lagoon that accepts it, and the operator pays a per-gallon or per-load dump fee. Disposal is regulated by state and local rules.

Dump fees, distance to the disposal site and the plant's restrictions (such as no formaldehyde) are a real part of what a rental costs. Operators in rural areas may drive an hour each way to the nearest plant that accepts portable toilet waste.

Dumping into a storm drain, a ditch or a private septic tank is illegal everywhere in the United States.
