Hunting camp: can a standard unit handle 8 people for two weeks?

Luis A.asked 0 viewsHome Renovations & Long-termStandard unitHolding tankService frequencyHunting campLong term rental

We're setting up a hunting camp in a remote area, no septic or water. There will be eight of us for a full two weeks. The ground is uneven forest floor but I can clear a flat spot. The service truck will have to make a 40-mile round trip from the nearest town to pump it.

I'm trying to decide if a single standard portable toilet will be enough for this group. We'll be eating camp food and probably having a few beers in the evening. The rental company's weekly service frequency is the norm, but I'm wondering if that's enough for 14 days with eight guys. Does the holding tank capacity handle that load, or should I schedule a mid-trip service? Is one unit even sufficient, or do I need to plan for two?

One standard portable toilet is not enough for eight people for two weeks. The holding tank of a standard portable toilet holds 50 to 70 gallons. With eight people using it for 14 days, even with the typical weekly service frequency, the tank will likely be full and overflowing before the first service. The industry guideline for events starts at one unit per 50 to 75 people for a four-hour event, and you need to add more units for longer duration and alcohol consumption, which your plan includes.

You have two options to make this work. The first is to rent two standard units. This divides the usage and doubles the total holding capacity, making it much more manageable for the two-week period with one weekly service. The second option is to schedule a mid-trip service visit. The rental company's truck would need to make that 40-mile round trip to pump the single unit halfway through your stay.

Since the ground is uneven, clearing a flat, level ground spot is essential for stable placement. The cost will be driven by the number of units, the rental duration, and the number of service visits required. For a remote location, the delivery fee will also reflect the distance the truck has to travel.
