Service truck access: what if our driveway is too steep for the vacuum truck?

We're gutting our only bathroom for a full remodel, so I rented a standard portable toilet for the driveway. The rental company asked about truck access, and I said sure, our driveway is paved. But I didn't think about the incline. Our house is on a hill, and the driveway has a pretty steep slope, maybe 20 degrees? It's not gravel or dirt, but I'm worried the vacuum truck might not make it up. The unit is placed about 50 feet from the street, on level ground near the garage. Has anyone dealt with a steep driveway? Will the service truck still be able to pump it, or do I need to move the unit closer to the street?

A steep driveway can prevent a vacuum truck from accessing your portable toilet for service. The service truck needs firm, level ground to operate its pump safely, and a 20-degree slope exceeds the safe working angle for most vacuum trucks.

You have two options. Move the standard unit to level ground near the street where the truck can park directly beside it. A 50-foot hose run from the street to your unit is too long for standard service; hoses are typically 25 feet or less. Or, ask your rental company about a pump-out service with a smaller vehicle, but this service costs more due to the extra labor and equipment.

The rental company will bill for a missed service if their truck cannot reach the unit. Confirm the access requirements with them now to avoid service issues during your bathroom remodel.
