What's the most creative solution you've seen for a blocked unit?

Had a head-scratcher this morning. A concrete truck parked right in front of a standard portable toilet on my route. The truck was there for the day, and my vacuum truck couldn't get within 50 feet. The driver ended up running every hose he had, snaking them right under the mixer to reach the unit's holding tank port. It worked, but it was a real hassle.

It got me thinking. On construction sites, at festivals, you name it, stuff gets in the way. I've seen units blocked by piles of lumber, catering trucks, even a flock of geese that refused to move.

What's the most creative solution you've seen for a blocked unit? Any clever tricks for when the obvious path is completely closed off?

Steel road plates over an open trench is the most creative fix I've seen work, and it worked more than once. We were running a water main down a residential street and our cut ran right between the curb and the standard unit, so the vacuum truck had nowhere to park within hose reach. We already had plates on site for driveway crossings, so the evening before service we dropped two over the cut and the driver parked on the far side like nothing was there.

The trick that saved us the most headaches is cheaper though. Our foreman sprays a box on the ground in front of the door and along the truck side with the same orange marking paint we use for locates, and writes SERVICE LANE in it. Concrete drivers and subs respect paint way more than a cone.

One thing I'd skip is moving a unit that hasn't been pumped. We tried sliding one about ten feet with the skid steer forks once and the holding tank sloshed enough to make a mess of the floor. If it has to move, get it serviced first, then relocate it empty.

Also worth putting the service day on the morning huddle sheet so nobody stages material in that lane the night before.
