Narrow alley access: Will the service truck's hose reach 50 feet?

We're renovating our house in Portland and have a standard portable toilet on our driveway. The driveway is gravel and level, but it's down a narrow alley that the service truck can't fit into. The driver told me he can't bring the truck closer than about 50 feet from the unit. I'm wondering how far the hose can actually reach for pumping, is 50 feet too far? What's the maximum hose length these trucks carry? Also, if the hose can't reach, what are our options? Do we need to move the unit to a spot with better truck access, or can the driver use an extension? I want to avoid missed service fees since we'll have this for a few months.

A 50-foot hose run is too far for a standard portable toilet service truck. The vacuum hose on a service truck reaches about 25 feet, sometimes 30 feet with effort. The driver cannot use an extension hose; the truck's pump is not designed for that length and would lose suction, risking incomplete pumping or spillage.

You have two options. Move the unit to a spot within 25 feet of where the truck parks, on level ground. Or, if moving it is impossible, the rental company may offer a manual pump service with a smaller portable tank, but that costs more due to the extra labor and equipment.

Blocked access results in a missed service, which the company bills for. For a long-term rental like your renovation, consistent access is key to avoid fees and ensure the unit stays clean. Confirm the exact truck parking spot with your driver to measure the distance accurately.
