Bathroom Remodel: Porta Potty for 5 Months in Snow?

We're gutting our only bathroom in Portland, OR, and the contractor says it'll take five months, right through winter. We're looking at renting a standard portable toilet for two adults, no kids. It'll sit on our gravel driveway, which is flat and has good truck access. But I'm worried about the cold, we get snow and freezing temps here. Will a standard unit with a holding tank function properly all winter, or do we need to upgrade to a flushing model or something else? What do people do for long-term winter rentals?

A standard unit with a holding tank will function through a Portland winter if serviced correctly for winterization. The rental company adds a non-toxic antifreeze solution to the holding tank during each service visit to prevent freezing. Your gravel driveway with good truck access is ideal for placement and servicing. For two adults over five months, a standard unit is sufficient and more cost-effective than a flushing model or restroom trailer, which have fresh water tanks that freeze and require more maintenance. Schedule weekly service to ensure the deodorizer is replenished and waste is pumped. Long-term rentals like this often have a lower monthly rate than short-term event rentals. Confirm with the operator that they use a formaldehyde-free deodorizer, as many wastewater treatment plants restrict formaldehyde waste. Staking the unit is wise for winter winds.
