Neighborhood garage sale weekend: is one porta potty at the clubhouse lot enough?

I'm on our HOA social committee and we're running the community garage sale again the last Saturday of October. About 70 homes signed up, and last year we had a steady stream of shoppers from roughly 7am to 2pm, plus a few households kept going Sunday. The clubhouse restrooms will be locked that weekend because the floors are getting redone, so shoppers have nowhere to go except knocking on residents' doors, which happened a lot last time.

My plan is one standard unit in the corner of the clubhouse parking lot, next to the dumpster pad where a truck can back right in.

Is one unit realistic for a crowd that comes and goes like that, or do most people not stay long enough to need it?

Should we add a handwash station, or is sanitizer inside the unit fine for this?

If a couple of families keep selling Sunday, is it smarter to keep the unit through the weekend and have it picked up Monday?

One standard portable toilet is enough for a neighborhood garage sale with a rotating crowd, even with 70 homes participating. The guest traffic at these events is transient, and most people do not stay long enough to need to use a restroom. The planning guideline for events is about one unit per 50 to 75 people for a four-hour event, and your shoppers are not all present at once. Your placement next to the clubhouse dumpster pad is good for truck access.

You should add a handwash station. A hand sanitizer dispenser inside the unit is not a substitute for handwashing with soap and water, especially for a public event. The handwash station will be more hygienic and appreciated by shoppers.

Keep the unit through the weekend and schedule pickup for Monday. The rental company will charge for the full rental period, but avoiding a second delivery and pickup fee makes this cost-effective. Weekly service is the norm, but for a weekend event with low use, one service after pickup is sufficient. The service frequency increases with heavy use, high temperatures or longer durations.

One standard unit is enough for your garage sale because the crowd is transient and most shoppers will not need it. Brooke's right on the handwash station, but I'll add that health departments require one with soap and running water at any public event where food is sold, even just cookies or lemonade. If your HOA isn't selling food, it's still a good practice. For Sunday, keeping the unit avoids a second delivery fee, but confirm with your rental company that they'll service it Monday, some charge extra for weekend pickups. Also, check if your county requires a special event permit for placing a portable toilet on HOA property; not all do, but it's better to ask.
