Special event permit

Also called: event permit, temporary event permit, park permit

A special event permit is the city or county approval for an event on public property or open to the public, and it almost always includes a sanitation section: number of toilets, accessible units, placement, service schedule and removal deadline. Portable toilets on a street or in a park are usually a permit condition.

Permit offices check the toilet count against the expected attendance, require accessible units, keep units away from water bodies, storm drains and food vendors, and set a time by which the units must be gone.

Apply early: the sanitation plan is one of the sections most often sent back for revision.
