What makes a restroom trailer rental more expensive than standard units?

We're getting quotes for my daughter's wedding next month, 150 guests for about eight hours with a catered meal and an open bar. The site is a flat field in Bozeman with good truck access. A rental company quoted us for a cluster: two deluxe-units and one ADA-unit to meet the ADA-cluster-rule. Then we asked about a small restroom trailer. The trailer quote was triple the price of the deluxe cluster. I get that a restroom-trailer has flushing toilets and sinks, but what specifically drives that cost? Is it the delivery with a heavy truck, the need for a generator, or the water hookup? I want to understand the breakdown before we decide.

A restroom trailer is more expensive because it is a complex, high-capacity system that costs more to build, transport, set up, and service than a cluster of standard or deluxe portable toilets.

A restroom trailer is built like a small building on wheels. It contains multiple flushing toilets, sinks with running water, mirrors, and often climate control. The manufacturer cost for a trailer is far higher than for individual plastic units. Delivery requires a heavy-duty truck and a driver trained to position it precisely on level ground. The setup is not a simple drop-off; the trailer must be leveled with jacks, and it requires a power source, either a generator you rent or a hookup to site power. It also needs a fresh water supply, either from a tank we fill or a hose connection. Servicing a restroom trailer is more labor-intensive. The vacuum truck must pump both the black water from the toilets and the gray water from the sinks. The fresh water tank may need refilling, and the interior requires a full clean, similar to a permanent restroom.

For your wedding with 150 guests over eight hours with food and an open bar, the guideline suggests you need more than the minimum units. The two deluxe units and one ADA unit you were quoted are a good functional cluster, but a trailer offers a guest experience closer to a permanent bathroom. The triple cost reflects all the added equipment, labor, and logistics.
