Backyard wedding: handwash station or just sanitizer dispensers?

We are finalizing our backyard wedding plans for early October: 80 guests, an evening ceremony followed by a dinner and dancing under a tent until about 11 PM. We are renting a couple of standard portable toilets and one ADA-compliant portable toilet to place on the lawn near the reception area. The ground is fairly level, and the rental truck can drive right up to the spot.

Now I am deciding on hand hygiene. The rental company offers a standalone handwash station with a foot pump, a water tank and paper towels. It would sit next to the toilet cluster. The simpler option is to just have hand sanitizer dispensers mounted on the outside of each unit.

I want guests to feel comfortable, especially since we are serving a full meal. Does a handwash station make a noticeable difference in guest experience compared to just sanitizer at a wedding? Is the extra setup and rental cost worth it for a four-hour evening event?

A handwash station makes a significant difference in guest experience at a wedding where a meal is served. The rental cost is worth it for the comfort and thorough hygiene it provides.

A standalone handwash station with running water, soap and paper towels is more effective than a hand sanitizer dispenser at removing visible dirt and grime. Guests appreciate the ability to wash their hands properly before eating. The foot pump operation is hands-free, which enhances hygiene. Hand sanitizer is a good supplement, but it does not clean hands as thoroughly as soap and water.

For an 80-guest evening event with dinner, the handwash station adds a level of polish. The setup is straightforward since your placement area is on level ground with good truck access. The rental company will place it next to your cluster of standard and ADA-compliant portable toilet units. Your event duration is short, so the station's water tank will not need a refill during the event. The extra rental fee reflects the larger unit and the additional servicing required compared to a simple dispenser.
