Our service driver left a 'missed service' tag. What now?

Our crew has 35 guys on a 12-week commercial job. We have four standard portable toilets and one ADA-compliant portable toilet on a gravel pad about 30 feet from the street. The rental company comes every Tuesday morning for service. Today our gate was locked for a concrete pour and the driver left a 'missed service' tag on the fence. We have a weekly contract. Do we get charged for that truck roll? How do we reschedule before the crew starts complaining?

Yes, you get charged for the truck roll. A missed service visit is billable because the driver and the vacuum truck made the trip. Your contract likely states that you must provide clear truck access on the scheduled service day.

Call your rental company immediately to reschedule. Explain that the gate was locked for a concrete pour and ask for a return visit as soon as possible. Most companies will try to send a truck later the same day or the next morning, but you will pay for the extra trip. Leaving five units for 35 guys, which meets OSHA 1926.51 for 16 to 35 employees, for another week is not an option; they will become unusable.

Prevent this by confirming the service schedule with your crew each week. Make sure the gate is open or a key is left for the driver. A blocked unit creates a health issue and an extra cost.
