We're hosting a backyard cookout this Saturday, roughly noon to 8pm, maybe 40 people. House bathroom is fine for family, but I do not want a line of guests walking through the kitchen all afternoon. Looking at one standard unit on the driveway near the side gate.

The quote just says "weekend delivery." Does that usually mean they drop it Friday afternoon and pick up Monday, or can they bring it Saturday morning and grab it Saturday night or Sunday? Our street already looks busy, and I would rather not have a unit sitting out Friday night if Saturday morning drop-off is an option.

Also, do I need to be home for the drop, or can they place it from a short note with a map of the driveway? Any real experience with how one-day weekend timing actually works would help.

You do not need to be home for the drop. Most companies can place the unit from a note and a map, but you must be clear about the exact placement. Mark the spot on the driveway with a cone or spray paint, and confirm the driver can reach it with the truck. Leave a note with your phone number in case of questions.

For 40 people over eight hours, one standard unit is within the common planning guideline. Since it's a one-day use, no service visit is needed. The price you are quoted covers the three-day weekend rental period, the delivery and pickup trips, and the cleaning after it is returned.

Ray is correct about weekend rental timing, but I will add a detail for your permit office. In some cities, placing a portable toilet on a driveway or in a public right-of-way for a weekend event requires a temporary use permit from the city or county. The rental company will not get that for you. If your driveway extends into the public right-of-way, check with your local permit office. Also, confirm the driver can get a vacuum truck to that spot for the Monday pickup, as blocked access is a common reason for a missed service.
