Hunting camp for 10 people for a week in November 2026

We run a hunting camp in the mountains every November. The spot is remote, no utilities, and the ground is uneven dirt. A vacuum truck can get to the site but it's a long drive. I'm planning for 10 people for a full week. No alcohol, but we have a cook tent.

I'm deciding between renting one larger unit, like a deluxe portable toilet with a sink, or two standard units to split up the traffic. The deluxe unit has a flushing bowl and a mirror, which is nice, but I worry about its fresh water tank freezing at night. Two standard units would be simpler, but then we'd need a separate handwash station.

For a week with 10 guys, which setup tends to work better in the cold? Is the convenience of a deluxe unit worth the freezing risk?

For 10 people for a week in cold weather, two standard portable toilets with a separate handwash station is the better setup. A deluxe unit's fresh water tank and sink lines will freeze overnight in November mountain temperatures, making it unreliable. Standard units use a simple holding tank with antifreeze added by the rental company for winterization, so they keep working in the cold. Two units split the traffic and meet the OSHA construction standard for a crew of 10, which requires one toilet. Add a handwash station with a hand sanitizer dispenser for hygiene near the cook tent. Since the site is remote, schedule a service visit at the end of the week; the long drive increases the delivery fee but weekly service is normal for this use. The rental company will stake the units on uneven ground and use a formaldehyde-free deodorizer to handle the waste volume.
