Porta Potty Forum

Delivery truck crushed our septic line and the fix is two weeks out. How do we make a porta potty work for a three year old?

A delivery truck backed across our side yard last week and crushed the pipe that runs from the house to the septic tank. The plumber says nothing can go down any drain until the line is dug up and replaced, and between his schedule and the county inspection we are looking at about two weeks.

We are a family of four. The part I'm stuck on is my son. He's three, just potty trained, and the seat on a standard unit looks huge and high for him. I don't love the idea of him in there alone with the open tank right under him either.

Anyone done this at home with a little kid?

Can I set his small training seat ring on top of the unit seat, or is that asking for trouble?
Is a flushing unit with a sink worth requesting with a toddler?
Where should it go so he can get to it from the back door at night?

Yes, you can make a porta potty work for a three year old. Rent a deluxe unit with a flushing toilet and a sink. Its seat is lower and smaller than a standard unit, and the enclosed bowl eliminates the open tank. You can safely place his training seat ring on top of the unit seat if it fits securely.

Place the unit as close to your back door as possible on level ground, ensuring the service truck has clear access for weekly pumping. For a two-week rental with a toddler, request a service visit after the first week to keep it clean. The flushing unit costs more than a standard one due to its features and fresh water needs, but it's the right choice for a young child.
