Porta Potty Forum

Neighbor asked us to turn our porta potty so the door doesn't face her patio. Will the driver rotate it, or is that on us?

We're about three weeks into gutting our only bathroom and the standard unit sits on the side strip between our house and the neighbor's fence. The door opens straight toward her back patio, maybe 15 feet away. She was nice about it, but she eats out there most evenings and says every time someone walks out she gets a full view and a whiff.

Turning it around would put the door facing our side wall with about four feet of clearance, which seems like plenty to get in and out.

A few things I'm not sure on. Will the driver rotate it on the next service visit if I leave a note, or do I need to call and set that up? Is four feet enough for the door swing and for them to get the hose to the tank? And is there a reason they set the door a certain way that I'm missing, like wind or the vent?

The driver will usually rotate the unit for you on the next service visit if you leave a clear note taped to the door. You do not need to call the company to schedule this as a separate task.

Four feet of clearance is enough for the door to swing open and for a person to enter. It is also sufficient for the service technician to access the rear service door with the vacuum hose. The hose is flexible and the truck can maneuver within the standard 25-foot truck access range.

The initial door placement is likely for convenience, not for wind or the vent stack. Drivers typically position the door for the easiest path from the work site. The vent stack is on the roof, so the unit's orientation does not affect odor control. Rotating it to face your wall is a considerate solution that should work fine for everyone.
