Gate locked on pump day: what happens?

We've got a 12-week commercial job with 60 guys on site. I ordered four standard units and one ADA-compliant unit, all on weekly service. The driver comes every Tuesday morning. Yesterday, our new security guy locked the main gate early and the pump truck couldn't get in. I got a call from the rental company saying it's a missed service. Now I'm worried about the units filling up before next week, especially with this Phoenix heat. What happens with the billing for a missed trip? Do I need to call for an extra service if the crew starts complaining, or will they just pump double next time?

Call the rental office today and book a catch-up pump, because a missed trip doesn't get made up by pumping double next Tuesday. A holding tank only holds what it holds. Once it's full, a bigger pump next week does nothing for the guys using it on Friday.

On billing, every outfit I've dealt with treats a locked gate as a trip charge. The truck showed up, burned route time, and couldn't service. Ask them to spell out their policy in writing so the invoice isn't a surprise, and expect the extra visit to bill on its own.

Sixty guys on four standard units plus the ADA unit on weekly service is already tight in that heat. I'd ask about a second weekly visit for the rest of the job, not just this one catch-up.

What fixed it for us on past jobs:

  • Service day and the driver's arrival window go on the security post orders.
  • Driver gets a gate code or lockbox key if your company allows it.
  • Guard's cell number goes on the work order so the driver calls instead of leaving.

Also walk the units yourself Wednesday and Thursday. If a tank is getting close to the seat, lock that one off and send the crew to the others until the truck comes.
