Weekly service isn't cutting it. Should we bump to twice a week?

We've got one standard unit on a framing crew of about 18 guys, five days a week, through a hot stretch. The rental includes a weekly service visit on Monday mornings. By Thursday afternoon the tank looks dark, the blue is basically gone, and nobody wants to walk in without holding their breath.

Is bumping to twice-a-week service the normal fix for summer construction, or do crews usually add a second unit instead? Also wondering whether you can usually change the frequency mid-rental, or if that waits until the next billing cycle. Truck access is fine. Flat gravel pad right by the street, so reach isn't the issue.

Yes, bumping to twice-a-week service is the normal fix for a single standard unit on a hot construction site with 18 workers. OSHA 1926.51 requires one toilet for 20 or fewer workers, so your unit count is compliant, but the service frequency is the problem. Heat accelerates evaporation and bacterial activity, which depletes the deodorizer and causes odor. A weekly service visit cannot keep up.

You can change the service frequency mid-rental. Call your rental company and ask for a second weekly pump-out, say on Thursday. They will adjust the billing from the date of the change. The cost increase reflects the extra labor, fuel and disposal for the additional service visit. Truck access and placement are fine, so no extra fees there.

Adding a second standard unit is an alternative, but it doubles the monthly rental rate and the weekly service fee. For 18 guys in summer heat, twice-weekly service on one unit is more cost-effective.
