6-month farm rental: can we reduce service frequency in the winter?

We have a standard portable toilet for our ranch crew. They use it weekends only, maybe four people max for eight hours. The ground is gravel, and the service truck has a clear 25-foot pull-off to reach it. In summer we get weekly service, but from November through March the crew is gone and I might only use it myself once or twice a month. The rental company charges the same monthly rate year-round. I'm thinking about asking to drop to biweekly service in the winter to cut costs. Has anyone done this with a rental company for a low-use winter site? Do they allow reduced service frequency without a contract penalty?

Yes, you can ask your rental company to reduce service frequency in winter for a low-use site. A standard portable toilet with a 50 to 70 gallon holding tank and minimal use can often go longer between services, especially in cold weather when bacterial activity slows and odor is less of an issue. Many operators will agree to biweekly or even monthly service for a site like yours where usage drops to near zero for months. The key is clear communication with your rental company. They need to know the usage pattern has changed so they can adjust the route. Some contracts have a minimum service clause, but for a long-term rental with good payment history, most will work with you. Just confirm there's no penalty for reducing service frequency. Your setup helps: level ground, gravel base, and clear truck access mean they can service it quickly when they do come, which makes occasional service more feasible for them.
