October 2026 harvest festival: can we place porta potties on the paved basketball court temporarily?

Our town's harvest festival is October 10-12, 2026, and we're expecting about 800 people each day over a 10-hour span, with food trucks and beer tents. The usual spot for the porta potties is a grass field, but it's a mud pit from weeks of rain. The only solid, level ground left is the paved basketball court, which is unused that weekend. I'm thinking of placing a cluster of 12 standard units there, including one ADA-compliant unit, plus two handwash stations. A vacuum truck can drive right up to the court edge. Is it okay to put portable toilets on asphalt like that? Will the surface get stained or damaged from the units or service?

Yes, you can place a portable toilet cluster on a paved basketball court. The asphalt is a stable, level surface that is ideal for placement. The units will not stain or damage the asphalt under normal use and service. A vacuum truck can drive right up to the court edge without harming the pavement. The main precaution is to ensure the units are placed on the court surface, not dragged across it, to avoid scratching. The service process itself, which involves pumping waste from the holding tank, does not involve any chemicals or actions that would damage asphalt. Your plan for 12 standard units and one ADA-compliant unit for 800 people over 10 hours with alcohol is a solid one, as it exceeds the common guideline of one unit per 50-75 people for a four-hour event. The paved location with direct truck access will actually make servicing easier and more reliable than a muddy field.
