Farming season: can we reduce service frequency for a porta potty used only on weekends?

We run a working ranch and hire weekend crews during the farming season. The crews are about 10 people, working Saturdays and Sundays only. The standard portable toilet sits unused from Monday to Friday. It's placed on level gravel near the barn, and the vacuum truck has no trouble reaching it. Right now, the rental company services it every week, but since it gets light use, I'm wondering if we can cut costs by switching to every two weeks. The holding tank is only used two days out of seven. Has anyone else done this with a weekend-only unit? What did your rental company say?

Yes, you can reduce service frequency for a weekend-only portable toilet, but your rental company must agree to the change. A standard portable toilet with a 50 to 70 gallon holding tank used by 10 people two days a week can often go two weeks between service visits. The rental company sets the price based on service frequency, so fewer visits should lower your cost.

Call your rental company and ask for a biweekly service schedule. They will confirm that your crew size and usage pattern support it. A blocked vent stack or hot weather can increase odor, but with light use, the deodorizer should last. The operator may still charge a small standby fee for the unused weeks, since the unit occupies their inventory.

I have ranch clients on biweekly service. The key is clear communication: if your crew size increases or you host an event, call for an extra service. Never let the tank fill past three-quarters full; it risks backups and extra charges. Your setup sounds ideal, with level ground and good truck access, so the company should agree.
