October 2026 wedding: can porta potties be placed on a slight hill?

We're getting married in October 2026 at my parents' property in Charleston, South Carolina. The wedding will have a tented reception for 140 guests, dinner, a band, and an open bar, so we'll definitely need restrooms. The only spot the rental company can place the units is on a grassy slope that's maybe a 5 to 10-degree incline, not far from the tent. I'm considering a mix of a restroom trailer and some standard units. I'm worried about the units being stable on the hill and whether the vacuum truck can safely get in to service them without getting stuck. Can portable toilets be placed on a slight hill? What does the rental company need to do to make it safe and functional?

A restroom trailer cannot be placed on a 5 to 10-degree slope because it requires level ground for the plumbing and doors to function correctly. Standard units can be placed on a slight hill, but the rental company must use staking and tie-downs to secure them from tipping. The vacuum truck requires firm, level ground to park safely for pumping without risk of getting stuck or rolling. For your 140-guest event with an open bar, you will need more than the minimum number of units. A restroom trailer needs a dedicated power source and either a water hookup or a filled fresh water tank. The rental company will assess the site to determine if the slope can be stabilized for standard units and if the truck access is adequate. If the slope is too steep or the ground is soft, they may need to build a temporary level platform, which increases the cost due to the extra labor and materials required.
