October 2026: should we add handwash stations for a 200-person outdoor wedding?

We're getting married next October in a big field at my parents' place, with about 200 guests, a tent, and a band. There's no running water anywhere nearby. I've already booked a restroom trailer and a few standard units for overflow, all on level ground where the truck can pull right up. The wedding will run about six hours with dinner, drinks, and dancing. I'm stuck on whether to add handwash stations too. They'd need servicing, and I'm worried about cost and clutter, but guests might expect them. Do handwash stations make a big difference for comfort at an event like this, or is hand sanitizer inside the units enough?

Yes, you should add handwash stations for a 200-person outdoor wedding. Hand sanitizer inside the units is not a substitute for running water and soap for proper handwashing, especially with a meal served. Guests will expect and appreciate the ability to wash their hands. A handwash station provides a more comfortable and hygienic experience.

The restroom trailer likely has sinks inside, but the standard units do not. Placing one or two handwash stations near the restroom cluster will serve all guests. The cost is driven by the rental of the stations and an additional service visit during or after the event to refill the fresh water tank and empty the gray water tank. Since you have no running water, the operator will need to service the stations.

For a six-hour event with dinner and drinks, the handwash stations will see heavy use. Their fresh water tanks can freeze if temperatures drop, but October weather varies. Your rental company can advise on winterization if needed. The clutter is minimal; a station is a compact unit on a stand. The improvement in guest comfort is significant.
