Friday night football tailgates all season: keep one porta potty parked by the lot, or book a fresh drop each home game?

I got talked into running the booster club tailgate this fall. It's a grass lot next to the high school field, home games every other Friday through mid November, and we usually get around 150 parents and grandparents over about three hours before kickoff. Grills, coolers, lots of kids running around, no alcohol.

The school opens the gym restrooms once the game starts, but during the tailgate the building is locked, so last week people were walking all the way over to the concessions side and the line got long.

Is it smarter to leave a standard unit out there for the whole season and have it serviced the morning of each home game, or book a fresh drop every time? And for 150 people over three hours, is one unit going to cut it, or should I ask for two plus a handwash station near the grills?

Leaving one standard unit on site for the season and scheduling service before each home game is the practical choice for your setup. It avoids repeated delivery and pickup fees, and the rental company will prefer a long-term contract. For 150 guests over three hours without alcohol, the event guideline suggests one unit per 50 to 75 people is adequate, but with kids and older adults, you should rent two standard units. A handwash station is essential near the food area to prevent grease and dirt from spreading.

An ADA-compliant unit is not legally required for a private tailgate on school grounds, but including one shows consideration for guests with mobility needs. The ADA cluster rule applies when units are clustered on public property or for public events; check with the school if the lot is considered public access. Servicing the units the morning of each game ensures they are clean and stocked. Weekly service is standard, but for infrequent use like every other week, the rental company may adjust the schedule to match game days. Just confirm the unit will be accessible for the vacuum truck on service days.
