Backyard wedding: handwash station placement near food or bathrooms?

I'm planning a 100-guest backyard wedding on a flat, grassy lawn with full catering and an open bar. The rental company is dropping off two standard portable toilets and one ADA-compliant portable toilet clustered together about 60 feet from the catering tent. My caterer is insisting the handwash station must be placed right next to their food service line for staff and guest convenience, citing health rules. But I'm worried guests won't walk all the way back from the restrooms to wash their hands. The caterer's spot is close to the driveway for easy truck access, but the restroom cluster is further back on the property. Do I put the handwash station by the food to appease the caterer, or by the restrooms for actual guest use? Is there a compromise, like having two stations?

You need two handwash stations, one by the food and one by the restrooms. The caterer is correct that health rules require a handwash station for their staff near the food preparation and service area. However, placing the only station there will not serve guests returning from the restroom cluster 60 feet away. A single station forces a choice between staff compliance and guest hygiene.

The compromise is to rent a second handwash station. Place one station directly at the restroom cluster so guests wash their hands immediately after use. Place the second station adjacent to the catering tent for staff use and for guests handling food. This dual placement follows the logic of permanent facilities, where sinks are in the restroom and also available near food service areas.

Your rental company can deliver both stations with the portable toilets. The station by the food tent can use the same driveway access for servicing. For a 100-guest wedding with catering, the cost of an additional station is justified by the significant improvement in hygiene and compliance.
