2026 Fall Wedding: How many porta potties for 150 guests with open bar?

We're planning our wedding for October 2026 at a family farm in upstate New York. It'll be a six-hour evening event with 150 guests, a full catered dinner and an open bar. The ground is grassy and level, and a service truck can drive right up to the spot where we want the restrooms placed. I'm trying to finalize how many units to rent and what type makes sense. Should we go with standard units, deluxe flushing ones, or splurge on a restroom trailer? And given the alcohol, do we need extra units beyond the basic count? I want to make sure our guests are comfortable without overspending.

For your 150-guest wedding with an open bar, you will need more than the basic count to ensure guest comfort. A common guideline for events is about one portable toilet per 50 to 75 people for a four-hour event. Since your event is six hours and includes alcohol, which increases usage, plan on at least five to seven units total. This count should include one ADA-compliant unit if you are clustering all units together, as required by the ADA cluster rule.

Standard units are the most economical choice and work fine if placed on level ground with easy truck access. Deluxe flushing units with sinks add comfort but require more frequent servicing due to their smaller holding tanks. A restroom trailer offers the most luxury with flushing toilets and running water, but it needs a generator or power hookup and level ground, which drives up the rental cost. The main factors affecting price are the unit type, rental duration, service frequency, and delivery distance. Given the alcohol service, consider scheduling an extra service visit during the event to keep units clean and stocked.
