Can a standard porta potty handle a 6-month garage build through winter?

I'm starting a detached garage build that will take about six months, right through the winter here in Portland. We're renting a standard porta potty for the crew, which is usually three to five people working weekdays. The unit is sitting on my gravel driveway, which is pretty level, and the delivery truck had no problem getting it there. My main worry is the cold. We get freezing nights and some snow, and I've heard stories about porta potties freezing solid. Will a standard non-flushing unit with a holding tank actually work through a winter, or do I need to ask the rental company for something different? What do they do to keep it from freezing up?

A standard portable toilet will work through a winter build. The rental company adds a brine or non-toxic antifreeze solution to the holding tank to prevent freezing. This is standard winterization practice for non-flushing units.

Your crew size of three to five people is well under the OSHA construction minimum of one toilet for 20 or fewer workers. A single standard unit is sufficient. Weekly service is the norm, but confirm with your rental company that their truck can access your gravel driveway on scheduled days throughout winter. They will pump the unit, add fresh deodorizer, restock paper, and check the antifreeze level.

Avoid flushing units or handwash stations for winter use because their fresh water tanks freeze solid. Your setup on level gravel is ideal. Just make sure the service path stays clear of snow and ice.
