October 2026 wedding: 150 guests, 7 hours, open bar. Units?

We're getting married in October 2026 at a private estate in upstate New York. The wedding will have 150 guests, an open bar serving for 7 hours, and a full dinner catered. The ground is grassy and level, and a truck can drive right up to the proposed spot. I'm trying to decide between standard units and a restroom trailer, but I'm not sure how many to order. How many portable toilets do we need for a wedding this size with alcohol? Should we add extra units because of the open bar?

For 150 guests at a 7-hour wedding with an open bar, you need at least 5 portable toilets. The industry guideline starts at one unit per 50 to 75 people for a four-hour event, but alcohol consumption and longer duration require more units. Add an extra unit specifically for the open bar effect, as alcohol increases restroom frequency. You must include at least one ADA-compliant portable toilet per cluster under the ADA 5 percent cluster rule.

Choose between standard units and a restroom trailer based on guest experience and logistics. Standard units are simpler, placed on level ground with easy truck access. A restroom trailer offers flushing toilets and sinks but requires electrical power and more precise leveling. Service frequency for a one-day event is typically not needed, but confirm with your rental company if they recommend a mid-event check for high-use scenarios. Costs depend on unit type, rental duration, and any add-ons like handwash stations or lighting.
