Adding urinal stations vs more toilets: which cuts the line more at a festival?
We ran a two-day outdoor music festival last year with about 2000 people a day, mostly men. The ground is a flat field with truck access. We had a mix of standard portable toilets and a couple of deluxe units, but the lines for the men's side were still too long, especially after the beer tents opened. This year I'm looking at two options to speed things up: adding more standard units, or mixing in some standalone portable urinal stations. The urinals take up less space and men can use them faster, but they only solve half the problem. Which setup actually cuts the wait time more for a crowd that's mostly male? Does adding urinals let you serve more people with the same footprint, or should I just add more full toilets?
