Hunting camp used weekends only: monthly service or per-use?

We run a hunting camp on our ranch, used weekends only from September through November. The crew is 10 people, no alcohol, just coffee and sandwiches. We have one standard portable toilet placed on gravel near the cabin. The vacuum truck can drive right up to it. The rental company offers monthly service or per-service visits. With low use, the unit doesn't fill up fast, but I worry about odor between uses. Is monthly service enough for weekend-only use, or should I schedule service only after a certain number of user days? What's the cost trade-off?

Monthly service is enough for your hunting camp setup. With ten people using a standard portable toilet on weekends only, the holding tank will not fill quickly. A monthly service visit will pump the waste, restock toilet paper and add fresh deodorizer to control odor between uses.

Per-service visits cost more per trip because the rental company charges a trip fee each time the vacuum truck rolls. A monthly contract spreads that trip cost over four weekends of use. Since your unit is on gravel with good truck access, the operator's cost is low, which keeps the monthly rate down.

Odor between uses is managed by the deodorizer, which breaks down waste and masks smells. For weekend-only use without alcohol, the unit stays cleaner longer. You could ask for a formaldehyde-free deodorizer if you're sensitive to the chemical smell. Scheduling service only after a set number of user days is risky because you have to track use and call for service, and a missed call means an overflowing unit. Monthly service is set and forget.
