Porta Potty Forum

Rec league fall season ends mid November and spring starts in March. Keep our porta potties out all winter or have them picked up?

Our fall season wraps the weekend before Thanksgiving and spring practices don't start until early March. Right now we have two standard units and one ADA unit at the fields on weekly service. Nobody really uses the park in winter except a few dog walkers and the odd pickup game.

The board is split. Half want them hauled off and redelivered in spring so we're not paying for months of nothing. The other half say we'll just end up paying delivery twice and then fighting for a spot on the schedule in March when every league in town wants units at the same time.

For anyone who has done this, is there such a thing as a winter arrangement where service drops to once a month or so? And does a unit sitting mostly unused all winter cause its own problems, like freezing up or getting vandalized more?

Keep the units on site through winter. You avoid two delivery fees and the spring scheduling rush. A rental company can switch your contract to a reduced winter service plan.

Winter service drops to once a month or less for unused units. The service visit includes pumping the holding tank, adding deodorizer, and checking for damage. This costs less than weekly service.

Unused standard units handle cold well. Operators add antifreeze to the tank to prevent freezing. Vandalism risk is real but leaving units in place often means they blend into the background, especially in a quiet park. The main issue is securing a reduced service agreement with your provider before the season ends. Some companies charge a small monthly holding fee for inactive units, but it beats full rental rates and double deliveries.
