October 2026 festival: solar lights needed for porta potties?

I'm planning a festival in October 2026 that will run from 4 PM to midnight with about 1,200 guests. We'll have food trucks and beer tents, so I know we need plenty of portable toilets. I'm renting 25 standard units and three ADA-compliant units, clustered in two areas on a grassy field. The service truck can access both spots easily. Since it gets dark early in October and there's alcohol involved, I'm worried about safety and guest comfort after sunset. Do I need to add solar lights to the porta potties? Is this something the rental company typically provides, or should I source them separately?

Yes, you should add solar lights to your portable toilets for a festival running after dark with alcohol served. Solar lights improve safety and guest comfort by illuminating paths and the interior of the units after sunset. Rental companies often offer solar lights as an add-on, but you should confirm availability and cost with your specific provider. If they don't supply them, you can source standalone solar-powered units separately.

Your unit count follows the industry guideline for events: about one standard unit per 50 to 75 people for a four-hour event, plus extra for alcohol and duration. With 1,200 guests over eight hours and alcohol, 25 standard units and three ADA-compliant units clustered in two areas is reasonable. Ensure each cluster includes at least one ADA unit to meet the ADA 5 percent cluster rule.

Since the service truck has easy access, servicing should be straightforward. Weekly service is standard, but for an eight-hour event with heavy use, you might arrange a pre-event delivery and post-event pickup without mid-event servicing unless specified.
