Our October 2026 wedding is in a field with no power. Will solar lights on porta potties be bright enough?

We're getting married next October in a field on my fiancé's family farm. The ceremony starts at sunset, and the reception with a DJ, catering and an open bar will run until about 11 PM. We'll have 120 guests total. I'm renting four standard portable toilets and one ADA-compliant unit, all clustered together about 100 feet from the tent on flat grass. A service truck can drive right up to them for delivery and pickup. My main worry is that there are no outdoor lights out there, and guests will be walking to the bathrooms in the dark after the sun goes down. The rental company offers add-on solar lights for the units. Will those solar lights provide enough illumination for people to see where they're going and feel safe using them at night? Should I consider stringing up some cafe lights on poles nearby instead?

Yes, the solar lights on the portable toilets will be bright enough for safety. A typical solar light attached to a unit illuminates the interior and a small area around the door, which is sufficient for guests to find the handle and see inside. However, the path to the cluster 100 feet away will remain dark. For a wedding with an open bar and 120 guests walking in the dark, I recommend adding path lighting. Stringing cafe lights on poles between the tent and the toilets is a reliable solution that creates a well-lit corridor. Your rental includes four standard units and one ADA-compliant unit, which meets the ADA cluster rule and is appropriate for your guest count and event duration. The solar lights are a good start, but supplemental lighting ensures everyone feels secure navigating after sunset.
