Backyard wedding: can porta potties be placed on a gravel path?

We're having our wedding in my parents' backyard in Charleston next spring, with 140 guests, a tent, a band and full catering. There are no indoor bathrooms for that many people, so we're renting portable toilets. The main path to the tent area is gravel, about three inches deep over packed dirt. The rental company asked where we want the units placed, and I'm thinking of putting them along that path for easy access. I'm worried about stability on gravel though. Can a standard portable toilet or a restroom trailer sit securely on a gravel surface without sinking or tipping? Also, the delivery truck has to drive on the lawn to drop them off, will that cause any issues with the placement?

Yes, a standard unit sits fine on gravel, and three inches over packed dirt is better than soft lawn because it drains and the skids don't sink. What matters is that the spot is flat. We ran a fall festival on a gravel lot and the only unit that gave us trouble was parked where the gravel sloped toward a ditch. The door wouldn't latch right and it rocked every time someone stepped in. Ask the crew to put a level on it when they set it, and if your path crowns in the middle, have them set the units on the flattest stretch. The level ground entry covers why that matters.

Wind is the other thing. Loose gravel doesn't hold a stake the way dirt does, so ask how they anchor units on a breezy day.

A restroom trailer is a different story. It has to be backed in and leveled on its jacks, so ask how much clear width and turning room they need before you commit to the path.

On the lawn, a loaded truck on wet spring grass leaves ruts. Book the drop for a dry day if you can and keep the units near the driveway end of the path, so pickup doesn't mean a second trip across the yard. Leave room so the units don't pinch the path where guests walk to the tent.
