Can a restroom trailer be connected to a house's sewer line?

We're doing a full gut remodel of our only bathroom, which will take about six weeks. I'm looking at renting a restroom trailer for the crew and our family, probably four workers and three of us, so seven people total, eight hours a day. There's a sewer cleanout in the side yard, about 15 feet from where we'd park the trailer. The ground is level lawn, and a truck could pull right up to it.

I know restroom trailers have their own holding tanks that get pumped by a vacuum truck, but since we have that cleanout right there, I'm wondering if we can skip the pumping service and just hook the trailer directly to our house's sewer line. Is that an option rental companies offer, or is it strictly a tank-and-pump setup? What would we need to make that work?

A restroom trailer cannot be connected directly to a house sewer line through a cleanout. Restroom trailers are designed with holding tanks that require pumping by a vacuum truck, and rental companies do not offer sewer hookup as an option. The trailer's waste system operates under pressure or gravity to the onboard tank, not to an external sewer line, and modifying it would violate rental agreements and local plumbing codes.

For your seven-person crew and family over six weeks, a two-stall restroom trailer is sufficient. OSHA 1926.51 requires one toilet per 20 workers for construction sites, and event guidelines suggest one unit per 50-75 people for four hours, so two stalls cover your group easily. You'll need level ground, electrical power for lights and pumps, and a water hookup or fresh water tank refills. Weekly service is standard, but with seven people using it daily, you might need more frequent pumping to prevent overfilling the holding tank. The rental includes delivery, setup, and pumping service, with costs driven by trailer size, rental duration, and service frequency.
