Porta Potty Forum

Crew dragged the porta potty a few feet with the skid steer and now there's blue water under it. Cracked tank?

Bathroom gut job on a ranch house, the unit has been on the side yard for about three weeks. Yesterday one of my guys pushed it about four feet with the skid steer to make room for a dumpster swap. Didn't tip it, just dragged it across the grass.

This morning there's a wet blue patch on the ground under the back corner and it smells worse than usual. Tank was maybe half full since service is Fridays.

A few questions. Is this probably a cracked tank from the drag, or can it just slosh out when it gets jostled like that? Should I call the rental company today or wait for the Friday visit? And is this the kind of thing the damage waiver covers, or are we on the hook because we moved it ourselves?

Nobody is using it right now, I taped the door shut and the guys are driving to a gas station.

Yes, that's a cracked holding tank from the drag. Dragging a standard unit with a skid steer puts stress on the plastic tank, especially if the ground isn't perfectly smooth. The blue liquid is the deodorizer mixed with waste leaking from a crack or split seam.

Call the rental company today. Do not wait for the Friday service visit. The leak is a health hazard and violates most rental agreements. The operator will need to bring a replacement unit and a vacuum truck to pump the damaged one.

This damage is not covered by a standard damage waiver. Moving a unit with equipment voids the waiver in most contracts. You are responsible for the repair or replacement cost because your crew moved it. Tell the rental company exactly what happened; they see this often.
