Damage waiver
Also called: damage protection, unit protection plan
A damage waiver is an optional charge on a rental that limits what the renter pays if the unit is tipped, vandalized, burned or lost. Without it, the rental agreement makes the renter responsible for the repair or replacement cost.
Waivers usually exclude gross negligence, theft with no police report and units placed where the agreement did not allow. On open construction sites and public events, most operators recommend it; on a fenced driveway it is a judgment call.
